*blowing off dust* *cough*....
Hi everyone! Yep, I'm back after a lil hiatus. Had lots going on...life, death, and everything in between. But through it all, God was and is, and will always be faithful!!
So, just wanted to talk about a lil something major that went on this weekend. I volunteer at a local high school, coaching students to figure out what they want to do with their lives after high school. Part of that, includes coordinating a program with a local nonprofit organization. We worked with them last year, and liked the experience, so we decided we'd do it this year.
We planned this program over the summer. As soon as school started we shared our plans with administration. All was a go! We planned, got volunteers, ordered food, recruited students...all things we needed to make this program a success. Then....
Maybe a week or so before the program we learn - this program falls on HOMECOMING WEEKEND!!!
So all Friday night, teens partied at the dance, like teens do. Our program was early Saturday morning. Only half of the students signed up showed up. The ones that were there were half sleep, or anxious to leave to get ready for the football game. It was hard to keep their focus, but I have to hand it to them, the students AND staff were pure CHAMPS about it all. No on complained, the students tried the best they could, and the staff was more than willing to help when needed.
In the end, it was a success...but:
What I learned: Make SURE that ALL schedules are coordinated. If you plan something and the calendar is still being worked out, WAIT - you never know what may fall on the date you have set.
Take care!!
