What I Learned Today: What's In A Name, How To Tie My Shoes, I'm THAT Mom and other things...

Met a FB friend. Every since I've "known" her - I've pronounced her name wrong. Glad I got to hear how it's really pronounced. Those things are really important to me. There is nothing more dismissive than someone mispronouncing your name after correction, not asking HOW to say your name, or worse yet misspelling it when the correct spelling is right in front of their face. I've been called "Debra", "Diane", and have had my name spelled so many different ways you wonder if the person even knows you or cares. I've even been asked if I was sure I spelled my name right....really? So you just gonna ask me that? I've been living for over 30 years - there's at least one thing I know for sure if I don't know anything else - and that's how to say and spell my own name. It's annoying. And I know people who constantly do this to me and others. I beg those people - please - take the time to say/spell someone's name right. Even those little details means a lot. After all, you may be speaking/writing to me but, "Dierdre" is someone entirely different.

What I learned today: How to properly say my friend's name and that I'm pretty attached to mine.

So, while I know how to say and spell my name b/c I've been doing it for over 30 years, apparently, I don't know how to tie my own shoes correctly. Did you know there was a right and wrong way to tie your shoes? Check out this vid!

Tie Your Shoes Right!!

What I learned today: I clearly have some relearning to do. Either that, or wear sandals for the rest of my life.

I remember before we had kids, I said "If we have more than two, they have to both do the same activity. I'm not gonna be runnin all over the city. If one takes ballet, they both take ballet. If one takes boxing, they both take boxing."  Oooooh the unrealistic dreams I had.

What I learned today: I am that mom. That mom that has only 2 children and about 4 sporting events to go attend. This is gonna be hard.

Yesterday, I learned about the Philadelphia Experiment. Then today I heard about that plane and the people on it.

What I learned today: Sounds like the restart of some unfinished business to me....

Boy, you wanna make some people mad? Talk about all the lies that go on in church and talk about personal responsibility. THAT will get some panties in a bunch - no matter how true it is.

What I learned today: Research is the key that keeps the door to hell locked....

Communicate, Know, Celebrate

What I learned today: Communicate to understand, not just to be heard.

Had to do a lot of that today - I hope I reciprocated well....

What I learned today: Know what you know and research what you question

Had to try to get others to do that today - I hope I was successful.....

What I learned today: Purim is a pretty cool celebration. An awesome alternative to Lent. Check it out!

New Math, Cliche movies, Style

Lookit here....this new common core "new math" foolishness is just that - foolishness....

No one needs to add something just to subtract something just to get an answer. If I have 5 peas, and eat 3 - I have TWO left...its simple subtraction. I don't need to add 5 more peas to my plate when I already struggled to get those 3 down just tell me that I have 2 left to eat before I have 0 on my plate. That's dumb. And I hate peas!!

What I learned today: Less is more only with makeup and accessories...don't mess with math that way....

Tyler Perry has a new movie coming out. Same stereotypical "po' lil' black woman" experience. Gag me with a spoon.

What I learned today: I'm so over this guy yet black women will keep him rich and on the scene...funny how he isn't in a relationship, yet gives "advice" and "hope" through his movies. *holding my eyes in my face as I roll them so they don't fall on the floor. Yes, I'm rolling them just THAT hard*

I did my hair! I know that's not news to some - many couldn't care less. But I'm excited!

What I learned today: I have enough hair for a cute flat-twist and two-strand style. Let the product hoarding begin!! *again*

What I Learned Today: How to Patiently Wait, IC's Drama, Lena Horne's Son Died

Someone was suppose to come and fix our toilet at 10:30am this morning....no one showed, but promised they'll be here tomorrow.

What I learned today: I have grown more tolerant and patient of foolishness and wasting of my time.

"There’s Pastor Joel R. Peebles, Sr., whose parents built a mega church of over 19,000 members, but who was cast out by the church board after the death of his father and mother. A court will decide whether he or the board should control the church and its properties valued at over $100 million. For now, Pastor Peebles preaches in a high school auditorium, working hard to build up a new congregation and to fulfill the legacy of his parents."

If you are a follower of Christ (and not a founder of a denomination) several red flags should have popped off in your head. If not, then this is why the foolishness of the IC is allowed to pervert the name and cause of Christ...

If you would like to view the documentary - but please know your bible before watching: http://rolandmartinreports.com/blog/2013/04/washington-watch-special-report-amazing-grace-drama-in-the-black-church/

What I learned today: "Drama" happens in a church (for the sake of the film, I will say "black churches" but really ALL IC) because there is no God there. There is no way the Spirit is there if there is hatred, jealousy, greed, and strife.

March is kidney month. As my normal, I will often share info on facebook and maybe even here about kidneys, transplants and dialysis. Today's tidbit was that Lena Horne's son was 30 years old in 1970 when he died from kidney disease. I didn't see what was the cause, but whatever it is, I thank God that technology and medicine has come so far that one doesn't have to die from kidney failure anymore.

What I learned today: Lena Horne had a son who had kidney disease. Did you know that? Get your kidneys checked!

Ghost Towns, Sorghum vs Molasses, Barney Miller

This weekend was pretty uneventful. We did our normal weekend thing - sleep in, hang out with the kids, etc. One small change was that this weekend, we decided to go to an outlet mall. There was one that was a little while west of us. And considering it was an outlet mall, we figured we'd just hop in the car and ride.

What an awful surprise when we arrived. It was a complete ghost town around there. The mall was boarded up and run down. All I could think of was - WOW times have had to be hard for an outlet mall in a popular city to shut down like that. Then I thought of all those employees who had become unemployed and my heart broke.

What I learned today: It is really sad looking at the carnage of a once bustling mall. Especially when it looks like there's no hope of it ever returning.

Sorghum Grass
Today I got a lesson in Sorghum and Molasses. I love the thickness of molasses, but never really "knew" which one to get and why. I would just get one in hopes that it's not too bitter. Well, today as I was at the farmer's market, I happened across something called "sorghum". I never heard of it, and the older lady at the counter hadn't either she said "I just work here". *shrug* I had to respect her honesty. So, I did a lil research and am glad I did!

Sorghum is a type of grass from Africa that was introduced to the US in the 17th century. The "juice" is extracted by milling the stalk of it and then evaporating the water leaving behind the syrup. It has more of a sour taste, yet it's sweet. And it's filled with vitamins and minerals - a great and healthy natural sweetener, so it is often used as a syrup.

Molasses is from the sugar cane plant that was also introduced to the US in the 17th century. Molasses is "boiled". And the more it's boiled, the more dark and bitter it gets. You can have "once boiled" (called First Molasses) that is pretty sweet/mild in flavor, and not so dark in color. Then you have "second boiled" (Second Molasses) - a little darker and thicker but also a little more bitter because they are boiling out more sugar crystals. These two types are usually used in baking. Then you have “Blackstrap”. This is the result of a third boiling of the syrup. This is the darkest of the molasses and is considered "bittersweet".

Then you have sulfered and unsulfered molasses. And really the only difference is, if sulfur is added, then you are dealing with a plant that was processed young and needs the sulfur to help preserve it. But if it's unsulfured, then the plant was an older plant and doesn't need the preserving help.

What I learned today: You can't just go pick up molasses and stuff without knowing what you're doing. Mess around and have bitter biscuits! No THANKS! lol

Ok, many people don't believe in biblical prophecy - I get that. But there are just some things in the natural that you can't ignore - yet people do. People ignore the writings of people like Alice Bailey, Edward Bernays, Margaret Sanger and the like. People ignore the writings in movies that foretell things to come. Well, sometimes, there are things you just can't ignore - and here's one of them. Pay very close attention to what the man behind bars says in this video. A little background: he has "discovered" a way to travel to the future....yes, there is an agenda to move the masses to a certain mindset and yes, it's very real.

What I learned today: It's amazing how long these agendas have been going on.One day people will wake up and realize everything is not a conspiracy and people will begin to get their own brains back - instead of falling victim to Barnays and those who follow his teaching....
