What I Learned Today: My daughter has the entrepreneurial bug, Martial Arts, Patois

So, my husband and I have created this tradition. On Thursday nights, we have TED Talk night where we watch a few videos that make us laugh and think together. On Friday nights is Family Movie Night where the kids get to pick a video and we watch it together over dinner and at night is our turn to watch a movie together. Our usual choice is some kind of martial art video. Well, we discovered over the weekend, we have watched just about every Chinese and Japanese martial art video our Amazon Prime account had to offer (we don't like the ones set in "modern" day times where they are fighting in cities like, New York or something...it just doesn't seem right. We are more traditional in our martial art movie watching.) Well, we decided to venture out of our norm and watch a Thai martial arts movie...and WOW!! That's some good fighting!

What I learned: Thai fighting is brutal but effective. Also, their god resembles them an awful lot.

Z's brain for the last couple of years
My baby girl is always trying to come up with some sort of business. Last year she wanted a lemonade stand. The year before that she wanted to constantly have garage sales. This past fall, she wanted to sell oak tree seeds and pine cones (we live in the city of oaks and lobbly pines, you can get these in your own yard). Last week she gathered some stones and sticks and wanted to sell them to the neighborhood kids. I quickly discouraged that for fear of some kid paying her $5 for some rocks she probably got out of their yard LOL. I don't need angry parents at my door. But today, today! Today she came up with a brilliant idea that involves her love for sewing and creativity. It was so good, that tomorrow morning I am going to have her learn about writing up a business plan and about implementation. I see real potential in that idea and I hope she sees it through.

What I learned today: The road to being a true entrepreneur is missing the mark until you hit the bulls eye. Then once you hit the bulls eye, you keep aiming and firing away until it becomes a part of you. Never get discouraged, it might take a while to hit that eye though.

Yesterday, I watched a video of a young Jamaican girl having a fit because of something her aunt told her to do. This baby was ticked off!! And she tickled me pink listening to her attitude and thick accent. So, I decided to "learn" Patois - and low and behold, Youtube has a channel for that!

What I Learned Today: Patois is an official language and they are actually working on standardizing it for teaching. I wonder if I can use that as a foreign language for the kiddos? LOL

Likkle More! (Bye!)

What I've Learned Today: Mind, Heart, Mouth connection, Jumping Leads to Inspiration, They Drink WHAT?

WARNING: This is a griping session. Please scroll on if you do not want to read....

Ok, so in the last two days I have seen some of THE most VULGAR foolishness in video. The first one was of a so called "pastor" who was so called "preaching" to her congregation. The point she was making was not letting people abuse you. But the way she said it, she may as well have been making a porn video. Some people say "it's not that serious, Deidra." But when your "pastor" acknowledges that what she said could be damaging to your children sitting there listening to her (and I quote "I hope the babies didn't hear what I said") but then goes on and says it again numerous times, in the same, if not more descriptive and vulgar way, literally *screaming* into a microphone and all the MEN are getting hyped up? You know you're out of order.

The second one was of a video who's purpose was:
1. To get your attention and ...
2. Try to convince you not to "hate" (read: have an opinion) by shaming those who do have an opinion about the subject, and subconsciously telling others to hate those who do not believe the way they do.

Crazy, hunh? The sad part is that the campaign used a very vulgar word - and worse yet, had children as young as what looks to be 4 saying it. Now, I don't know if you remember but a few days ago, I wrote a blog about a young child that was taken out of his home for being taught vulgarity by those around them. I ask you, what's the difference? Is it the fact that the child in the campaign was "cussin for a cause"? Was it because the child was dressed up in make-up and in front of a "professional" recording team? I mean, keep in mind, the other child was being recorded as well, but from a camera phone.

There is a huge problem when we as a society feel that it is ok to be so vulgar and accepting of letting go of just plain decency. Ten years ago, you would have neeeever heard things like this. This is a serious barometer of where our hearts are as a people. And if YOU are a "christian" and think that I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill, may I direct you to the words of the One you claim to believe in....

Matthew 15:17-20(NIV)
17 “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”
Matthew 12:34-35(NIV)
34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.
Proverbs 4:23(NIV)
23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
What I Learned today: There will be no end to depravity until the Lord returns and it's starting by planting small seeds in the hearts and minds of children.
If you condone or even participate this type of foolishness (manner of speech and thought), you have a dirty and vile heart. I submit, that if you are a "christian" you haven't been converted and really need to reevaluate your salvation and relationship with Christ. Yeah, I said it....you need to question your salvation.

DefyGravity

Not My Family Or My Kids....just sayin
We went there today and had a WONDERFUL time. You want a good workout? Go there or a place like it. Oh goodness that was so much fun. DefyGravity is a trampoline park here in our area. We had to drive a little ways to get to it though. Good thing, they are going to build one right in our city! Well, while there, I really got to see my kids in all their splendor. My son quickly made some "big kid" (teen/college age) friends who taught and encouraged him to jump off stuff and do flips. He got to spend time with his dad doing the same. I watched my daughter jump and squeal and flip. While there we all got to see parkour for real. People running on walls and jumping off of them, doing all kinds of trampoline tricks. It was awesome. So awesome, that my children have decided, they want to learn parkour. Lord, help me. LOL

What I learned today: Trampolining is tiring but so much fun. And I'm actually excited to see my kids interested in something as unique as parkour.

Ted Talks
Tonight is "Ted Talk Thursday" in our house. Just got finished watching one about how in Mogadishu unemployment equals terrorism but they are trying to change that by encouraging the young people there to be entrepreneurs. It was a good one. But there was one thing they slipped in there that they musta thought we wouldn't catch...

What I learned today: People drink camel milk....??!!
